Know Your Venue: Highline Ballroom

Highline Ballroom is my favorite venue in New York City. Ever since the Knitting Factory relocated to Williamsburg in 2009, Highline is the place to catch the scene's lastest and greatest up-and-coming bands. Located in NYC's trendy meatpacking district, Highline is the coolest and most affordable place to see great live music. Whether you want to be in the middle of the crowd or or just hang out on a couch on the balcony and feast on some delicious eats, this place is awesome. The space is a prefect size and meeting and greeting band members is super easy due to the layout. Also, it's likely you'll run into a bunch of industry people checking out their newest projects. (Do yourself a favor and introduce yourself!) I've seen so many amazing shows from an array of artists ranging from British import Little Boots to Long Island's hometown heroes, Envy On The Coast. Great venue. Great scene. If you're looking for a cool place to hang, there's always something at Highline.

Making music tangible again!

I know I miss the feeling of having mix CDs, especially when great music is less available as a hard copy release and more likely to be a download exclusive. This new invention included embedded cards and a turntable like base that brings your digital music back into a more tangible medium. Pretty cool, don't you think? It doesn't look perfected just yet, but for an avid CD and vinyl collector like myself, I'm super stoked on the idea of keeping music a palpable, real thing as long as we can.

I think I should off this blog by introducing myself.

This is an account of a girl making her way through the music industry in new york city. Hey, I'm Silvia. I'm a student at a college right outside of new york city. I get up early and go to bed late. I'm an currently an intern within Columbia Record's Top 40/Pop Promotions department. Other than that, I'm a street marketing representative for Atlantic Records and Photo Finish Records, I go to as many shows as and I can, I love meeting people and networking, and I love looking for for new innovations in the music industry. I'll be sure post all about my lastest findings and obsessions as well as pass along industry news and things you need to know. Enjoy!
